“A recent paper by Cornell Tech researcher Vitaly Shmatikov and independent researcher Martin Georgiev demonstrated that shortening URLs can have serious privacy consequences. Because shortened URLs are so short, they are vulnerable to brute-force scanning, meaning that attackers can guess multiple shortened URLs and read all of the working ones. The researchers looked at MicrosoftMSFT -0.95% OneDrive and GoogleGOOGL -0.51% maps URLs shortened using bit.ly. They found that shortened URLs shared on a cloud service are effectively public. In the case of Microsoft OneDrive, they’re vulnerable to malware injection as well.
“In the case of cloud-storage services such as Microsoft OneDrive, this not only leads to leakage of sensitive documents, but also enables anyone to inject arbitrary malicious content into unlocked accounts, which is then automatically copied into all of the account owner’s devices. In the case of mapping services, short URLs reveal addresses and—via easy cross-correlation with public directories—identities of users who shared directions to medical facilities (including abortion, mental-health, and addiction-treatment clinics), prisons and juvenile detention centers, places of worship, and other sensitive locations; enable inference of social ties between people; and leak other sensitive private information,” the researchers concluded.
Although Google has responded by lengthening URLs and blocking automated scanning and Microsoft no longer allows OneDrive users to share files using shortened URLs, previously shared links are still live, and the exposed data is still vulnerable. But the fact that private shortened URLs could become public is not only reason not to shorten URLs. There are others.”
I had no idea that shortened URLs could be so problematic and dangerous. There is also the idea that some folks could get angry at a misleading title to a link.
This article goes on to explain that twitter now automatically shortens your URLs so no need to do that for Twitter anymore.
“Shortening URLs used to help you save precious characters on Twitter, but this is no longer the case. ALL URLs are now altered to 23 characters.
TL;DR: Using the full URL promotes honesty, transparency, and good digital hygiene. Posting shortened URLs does the opposite.”
You need to go here and review the Blogging – 3Min Expert – Attraction Marketing Edition course. I purchased it and am more than pleased at the depth of education it provides guided by the man who is arguably THE greatest blogger rolling right now. Making money blogging without the use of paid advertising is not only the dream of all bloggers, it is a necessity to many. This will help.
It is Monday morning, and you are again at work. You continue plodding through the day carrying out the duties needed to help another achieve their goals and dreams wondering whether you will ever achieve your own.
You spent every morning last week blogging, then going back and performing as much SEO as you could depending on how much you know about SEO.
Post after post, and there remain no comments, no clicks on your links, no commissions.
It is not your fault. I intend to help you with this in this article.
First of all, do you know how to construct a good article? Have you ever took the time to invest in training on blogging? Unfortunately, there is a school of thought teaching people that all they have to do to succeed is to blog, blog, blog with no regard for quality of content. As if somehow overloading the Internet with shock and awe in terms of posting will somehow magically make you rich and make Google send people to you. Nothing could be further from the truth. Constructing a good blog post does take some thought. Treating your blog as a Facebook timeline where you post about your cat will be just about as profitable.
I am going to suggest you do two things. First, invest time and money into actually learning the craft of blogging. Writing novels is a craft, as is writing short stories. Blogging is no different. The Internet is a vast sea of shouting voices. Do not think you will rise to the top by accident.
Second, learn what it is to syndicate your content. When you write a blog post to your WordPress blog there are plug ins and widgets that will automatically post it to your Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites.
Read about writing. Tell stories that apply to you. Share experiences that have helped you learn about things relative to what you are trying to do. Do not post things that are not related to your business. If you wish to do that, go to Live Journal and post. It is an excellent free blogging platform and has a significant readership. When I cannot help myself and need to rant about some injustice in the world, of which there is no shortage on either side, I go to LiveJournal and let lose. When I want to post for profit and earn a paycheck, I post to my WordPress blog and syndicate it.
A Writing Resource
On the issue of learning about how to properly post an excellent resource is Ezine@rticles. I strongly suggest you go there, sign up for all the excellent instruction emails that they will send you every so often. They will cover how to properly create a title that does not lie or overpromise. They will also teach you how to properly format a title.
Now, you will read articles on various forums naysaying it. Ignore them. My mentors in this business, men and women with stable five and six and even some closing in on seven figure monthly incomes, encourage this strategy.
You really cannot run your business terrified you will piss Google off. I am not saying you should return to the lazy days of keyowrd stuffing, but I am saying you should spend more time practicing good content creation and less time making sure to tippy toe around Panda. If you do, you will fail just the same.
Stay tuned for more instruction on how to successfully blog.
Check this out. Multiple six and seven figure income earners tell what they would do to make $5K in 30 Days if the had to start with no list, no JVs, from scratch.
Like a lot of you, I did the dance of trying company after company in the home business arena with little success. Amway, Quixtar, Melaleuca, some company selling silver solution and so on.
What did they all have in common?
They had the following in common:
Excellent, top quality products.
Sell your family and friends and their family and friends and hope you survive long enough to make it to the 0.5% of those who actually make a living from home seemed to be the industry sales plan.
A 0.5% success rate amongst their distributors and no plan for making it better.
They provided lots of RAH! RAH! sessions and very little ‘Do This, Not That’ instruction.
Note: I do not consider ‘worry the p!$$ out of your family and friends’ to be worthy of being called instruction.
A fellow who I was fortunate enough to have a conversation with told me that the majority of these companies work within the following constraints:
They know only 0.5% +/- will make it to six figure incomes
98.5% will fall by the wayside and quit the business in short order
16.5% will remain as customers of the company’s products for a fairly long time, many permanently.
His comments would wake me two years later in the cold early morning hours.
People (I was one) would scratch their heads and wonder why the company kept growing if none of the salespeople remained active for very long. Later on, I realized that the company does not need salespeople to remain profitable; it needs customers.
If you are generating 16 long term customers for every 100 failed distributors, your business is golden.
This fellow who covered this information with me, who was honestly trying to help me although at the time I was not at a place in my personal growth to where I could actually grasp what he was telling me, planted the seed in my brain that would just blossom later.
What happened? What was this sudden realization?
The Dream Never Left Me
Someone once asked me, “Why don’t you just quit?” In other words, why do you keep banging your head against this wall when you keep failing? My reply was, “I don’t know how.” I was not lazy, and I was not stupid. I simply had bad information. Every one kept telling me they had the secret and for $29.95 or $39.95 or my next paycheck or whatever, they would REVEAL it to me.
It was not too long that I figured out was that what they knew was how to separate me and most others in that late night TV daze of exhaustion and worry from our $39.95 and very little about building a stable, long term profitable business from home. Sure, we felt better for a time …we had done something… but very little actual information was ever forthcoming.
Early Morning Wake Up Call From the Great BEYOND …My Subconscious
I sat up in the middle of the night…I think it was something like 3:15AM on a Saturday morning and said to myself,
“Their plan calls for a 98.5% failure rate.”
“Their plan calls for a 98.5% failure rate.”
“Their plan calls for a 98.5% failure rate.”
I Need A New Plan
I needed a new plan.
I could not rely on someone whose plan calls for me to most likely fail to give me reliable information.
They were already betting on my failure. It was already worked into the numbers.
Their plan did not need for me to succeed
My replacement was already being groomed most likely
Like I said, I could rely on them for quality products because unlike some big box stores who only sell what is cheap to people on minimal incomes, most direct sales companies thrive on selling quality products to folks who demand quality and will pay for it.
Keeping my mouth shut to my family and friends…I was determined that the only future conversations I would have with family and friends about business would be about my paying cash for my house, I went into think mode.
I needed a new plan based on information that had stood the test of time and changing market conditions. I went to work to find that information.
Burnt out on the grind of prospecting, I went through the trouble of actually spending time with those who were succeeding. I made it a point to find their contact information and talk with them.
They all had the same thing to say:
Run Your Business Like a Business and Market It
So I stopped selling and prospecting and started marketing.
And that was the difference that has made all the difference. I actually experienced cash flow that involved no phone conversations or persuasion by me. I also found out that the majority of successful folks share a common marketing (not sales) system.
Now it is YOUR TURN to “get inside” the same system I joined about a year ago… absolutely FREE for the next 30 days.

If you want to make more money, all you have to do is sell more stuff. To sell more stuff, get your offer in front of more people. Build a bigger audience and you will make more money. The more you tell, the more you sell. It’s a universal principle; it really does work.
One of the fastest, most powerful ways to build a bigger audience and to get more traffic, leads and sales on complete autopilot is to syndicate your original content to numerous social media sites.
Some social media sites include:
…and this is by no means an exhaustive list. For some reason I like plurk although I don’t kid myself in comparing it to one of the above. The interface is just crisp, but I am beginning to get off track here. If you check out Plurk, make sure to add me.
Anyways, when you upload a new Youtube promotional video… not only do you have the potential for everyone on Youtube to find it… you have the potential for 800,000,000 people on Facebook to see it and another 250 million on Twitter and 200 million people on LinkedIn… and more, quite a lot more.
If you like doing what if’s in your mind, think on this: If your conversion rate is 1% and you managed to get in front of a significant percentage of Facebook’s members with your content, what do you think that 1% would look like in your checkbook? Pretty nice, I am guessing.

The very first tip is to look at all the marketing channels you have before you, look at your natural tendencies, and decide for which channel you think your natural talents are most suited.
Do you like to write letters, long emails and keep a journal? Then maybe content marketing and blogging are a natural fit for you. Are you a ham and love being in front of the camera? Then YouTube marketing is perhaps where you should start.
Whatever you decide, do it and do it several times a week. I am not going to beat the drum of do it every day but I do think four to five times a week is a good idea. Sometimes you need to take a break so you can put something good together rather than rushing out something half @$$ed, you know?
Pick on method and do everything you can to master it.
If you find you are getting no results, ask yourself whether you are really focusing on one method or if you are shotgunning it. If you are not shotgunning it, ask yourself if you are consistent in your marketing efforts. Marketing takes time to gain traction.
FOCUS on one strategy to profitability.

Affiliate Marketing Tools
You know all those Capital One commercials asking you, “What’s in your wallet?”
Ask yourself what is in your affiliate marketing toolset.
Well? What is in your affiliate marketing toolset? If you are like most folks the question never occurred to you.
Thing is, when you do keyword research and you find a word for which you think you can compete you need to look at the number of searches for that keyword. Under 500 is a good place to start for the new person. When you create a piece of content with the purpose of making a profit, you need to understand that you need to craft it in such a way that it winds up on page one of Google’s search results.
Google’s Keyword Planner is free. I don’t use it. I use Market Samurai because it breaks everything down in terms of what my competition is doing, what their page rank is, how many backlinks they have, and so on.
My personal toolset includes
Posting On Purpose for Profit1
Audience Builder Pro2
Rank and Stick SEO3
My Lead System Pro’s Mastery Program4
Affiliate Marketing and Backlinks
Simply put, if your toolset will not create more backlinks than your competition you will not be on the first page of Google and any traffic you get will be either accidental or from other sources …which is perfectly fine. You just need to know that the majority of people do not look past page one of Google and job one of your SEO toolset needs to be to create backlinks to your page to maximize your chances of being on page one.
You can do this yourself by spending the time or you can invest in tools that do it for you. Either is fine as long as you know how many your competition has so you can set about the business of creating more than they.
Affiliate Marketing Tips for Blogposts and YouTube Videos
Earlier, Google’s Keyword Planner was mentioned as was Market Samurai. YouTube also has a Youtube Keyword Tool you can access by clicking here. It is not as up to date as Google or Market Samurai’s tools as it is new, but it is not a bad idea to cross reference between YouTube’s tool and whichever keyword tool you use.
Here are some quick and dirty blog post and video SEO tricks:
Have your keyword in the title
Have your keyword in the file name
Description should be about 4-5 sentences with your keyword used in them. Don’t over do it; just write a good short paragraph about your chosen keyword.
If you are making a video about a particular product and not linking it to a blog post because you are engaging you YouTube affiliate marketing, make sure your capture page link is the first line of the video description, and the last. This really is critical.
Post about your video with links to it in your social media accounts.
Use timestamps with your keyword in the description. YouTube will automatically create a bookmark at that point in your video as well as take note of another instance of your keyword for search and indexing purposes. This increases keyword depth without ticking off Panda.
Google favors YouTube…probably because Google owns YouTube. While you can and should post videos to other video sites, you need to keep posting to YouTube, too.
Backlinks. Create backlinks. Say it with me, “Backlinks are good; backlinks are sexy; backlinks will make me rich AND sexy, too.” Well, rich anyways.
Leads are the name of the game for building any kind of business offline and online; having a good lead generation process is crucial to the eventual success of your business. Even your local supermarket spends effort, time and money generating leads. Those sale papers are not afterthought.
Not all leads are equal and not all lead generation processes are equal, or even effective. A sub-standard lead can cost a lot more than it seems at first impression. Time is a limited, one way investment that you will spend no matter what.
Bad leads are a bad investment.
Lead Generation Means ‘QUALIFIED’ Leads
If leads have not been qualified in the promotional process you are wasting your time. You will spend your time working with folks who are uninterested and most likely cannot remember why you are contacting them.
Lead Generation Requires Work; It Requires Correct Work
Offline it requires you setting up meetings and driving to those folks, calling them, and often wondering why in the heck did they commit to a meeting if they did not want to come.
They may delay you by saying, “Can you send me some information on it?” or that golden oldie I always love, “I will think about it.”
You can but they probably won’t.
If you are in a hurry, you probably don’t have time to do the marketing process many companies engage in such as collecting information from prospects at trade shows, sending them information, pre-qualifying them and so on.
You need a method of generating leads who are looking for what you are offering, for whom you have a solution to their problem, an end to their pain.
Step Back and Understand the Lead Process
If what you are doing is not working, come to grips with the idea that you don’t understand the process. Understand that this is a critical issue that must be resolved in order to move forward.
Online generation is deceptively simple looking. Mainly, because you are struggling to be seen and heard in a web of pages dominated by Google and folks who understand SEO, SAO and how to get backlinks.
Yes, you can do that, but doesn’t it make more sense to be presenting information and help in such a way that they seek you out for free? When you create content and put it up on a blog it works for you from then on. If you are buying clicks, once those clicks are done, you are done and they are gone. Hopefully, they will buy but if they do not, then you have accomplished nothing.
Obviously, this is the downside. I am not entirely against buying clicks I just know many people who are trying to get started do not have the budget to buy traffic. Once you do get started, buying focused, targeted traffic is a great way to accelerate your business. Doing it when you have to choose one bill to pay over another to get started is maybe not such a good idea. The cool thing is there are ways to get a blog hosted pretty much for free or less than a $10 spot a month and get going now.
A Lead Generation Process That Works
You need a lead generation process that provides you a what to do, when to do it, what to sell, and to whom to sell it kind of set up. Do you have any up front training that is free for your prospective customer or distributor to go so they can get a feel for you and what you offer? Do you have a mechanism whereby you can make money on 90% of the folks who say ‘no’ to your network marketing business?A system that is always updated so as to keep up with changing times and effective strategies?
The best way to write an article is to either write about a subject with which you are familiar, paying attention to proper grammar and making sure that you have created a unique piece of content that has actual value for the reader or you can also research a subject and write about your findings..
Used to be that when I researched a subject I would see a few links on the front page that I knew had to have been written by a computer or written by someone whose first language was clearly not English. Being more experienced now, I recognize those articles for what they are. They are spun articles (nothing really wrong with that) which the publisher had not taken time to properly rewrite with proper grammar, infusing it with his or her own personal experiences in order to make it truly unique, helpful content with actual value for the reader (and there is plenty wrong with that.)
Quality counts today more than ever so take a little extra time to create a good post.
Once you have written a quality article, you can then set about maximizing the SEO aspects of it such as determining appropriate keywords for the subject matter, creating appropriate and headers, and making sure there is a smattering of keyword phrases and related long tail keywords scattered judiciously throughout the body of the article.
Make sure you do not engage in keyword stuffing.
Google will penalize you in the worst way.
Keyword stuffing has little effect. It is not worth the time. Any good it might have done in the past is, well, past.
Conversely, you can choose a keyword based on your ability to compete. How do you know if you can compete? In order to maximize your chances of landing on the first page of Google’s search page for a particular keyword, look at Google’s keyword planner tool. If you can generate more backlinks for the article over time than the majority of the competition ranking for the keyword in question then proceed with either writing what you know or researching the issue. If you cannot then move on to a different word.
If you don’t know what I am talking about, I suggest we talk about how to best get you up to speed on SEO. Also, be cautious about researching this issue. Google Panda is slapping down sites in a hard way for using SEO techniques that used to be perfectly legitimate, penalizing sites for overuse of SEO. No point in crying about it; just know that it is a danger and adjust accordingly.
Besides, an over SEO’d (yeah, that is a new verb), keyword stuffed, over linked piece of writing is just about the most mind-crogglingly boring piece of reading you could ever hope to avoid coming across. Seriously, such will hurt your brain.
What Is Needed for a Well Written Article
Why not read 7 to 10 articles on the issue of article creation? If you have not done it, I would. I have been journaling for near 40 years now and blogging for pretty much as long as the Internet has been around, even before they called it blogging actually and I still get a kick and occasionally an inspiration from reading the current thinking on the subject. Yes, some of it is all blather and trash even if it does wind up on the front page of Google but sometimes you get a real gem.
After that, you will need to either have knowledge of the subject or have done your homework such that you now have knowledge of the subject. In any case, reading the first ten articles that come up on the subject on Google is a good idea simply because it will give you fresh eyes through which to see the subject and also possibly give you new information or developments of which you previously were unaware. This is not necessary, but occasionally it is a good idea.
Also, don’t over write your article. $100 dollar words and phrases may impress your college English professor but it will cause the average web surfer to experience temporary blindness and loss of consciousness (it will put them to sleep and you don’t want that.) Any concepts associated with the web can be put into comfortable high school level English and convey the essential ideas very well.
I am assuming you are writing on your own blog here. The urge to overpopulate your post with links to everything you are offering is a natural one.
Tomorrow In Part 2
In part two which I will post tomorrow I will show you a free resource that can help you quickly get into the habit of writing good articles from scratch and which gives you skills you can easily adapt to your own blog.
