So, You Want To Work From Home
The question of how to make an income from home always comes up when folks find themselves in the following situations:
Got laid off indefinitely
Downsized (‘rightsized’ there’s a word to piss you off)
Retired and found payments were less than planned
Disabled, holding your breath for Social Security Disability
If often comes up with the realization that:
You hate your job.
Your boss does not respect you; he may never do so.
There is no career path; no income increase prospects.
Starting A Business
Deciding you want to work for yourself leads to the need for a business plan.
Questions you need to answer:
What products and services you want to market?
To whom are you going to market? Who is your target market?
Marketing methods you will use.
How to drive traffic to your site.
When you answer these questions, you can then be about the business of filling in the blanks of your business plan.
If you have plenty of room in your budget, then yeehaa. Let’s get started.
That really is not the point of this post. This post is directly aimed at those whose budgets are extremely tight or perhaps even zero.
If you want to get started marketing and building an online business, there are some expenses involved.
If you are choosing a network or MLM opp you probably will have some kind of monthly expense or auto ship.
You will want a blog that you own. If your politics or alignment goes against the grain of your ‘free’ blog’s hosting company they can yank your blog and close your site.1.
There are paid traffic sources. You can stick with the free methods, but paid is something you will want to be comfortable with.
Incidentals: faster Internet, office supplies, etc.
Tools. There are tools, some are a one time fee, others are subscription based.
DON’T DO IT.
That’s right, your uncle Tim is telling you to not borrow money. Go save it, work some extra hours if you can. Point is, if you are having trouble paying your bills and buying groceries I sure to Heaven do NOT want you borrowing money in order to purchase some of the courses and such that I sell.
I am not in the business of hurting people.
I AM in the business of building long term business relationships with folks who want to be free from the need for a job, forever.
Now, the make it real quick here there are two pieces to this puzzle. The products and services you are going to sell and the training provided by them. Then there is the training outside and separate from the what they provide you. There is also affiliate marketing which, while basically free to start, does require some learning while you are earning.
Point is, you have GOT to get some cash flow going, right now.
How do you do that?
Get Paid Today
Get Paid Today, also known as GPT, is a concept that means you understand that 95% of the folks who see your business opportunity are not going to get involved with you, but you STILL have ways and opportunities to make money from them. One way is to sell them training materials and other such things through an affiliate marketer relationship with various companies.
This is all well and good but how do you do that?

1 More and more, companies who provide what you can call essential services are using the potential gatekeeper power they have to force public compliance. Do not fail to consider this. By hosting your own blog with an independent hosting company you own your domain and your data. By owning your domain and regularly backing up your data you can minimize the potential for interference or extended down times while you work out a disagreement.
We have all heard this in one form or fashion over the years. Some decide they do believe it and go on to success. Others say they believe and they are going to get right on it
…just… as soon as… fill in the blank of whatever excuses we have all heard and made over the years.
Telling me or someone else you believe you can achieve does you exactly no good, other than it is probably good for you to hear the words coming out of your own mouth.
Self-Confidence and the Skeptic
If you have all this self-confidence you claim to have, why are you not stepping up?
To address a different segment of readers, if you know you have no self-confidence do you know why? Why is it you see folks you know are not as smart as you succeed?
I think I figured it out.
It occurs to me that folks with no self-confidence are their own worst skeptics. Somewhere along the line someone consistently doubted your ability to succeed. Even when you did, the huffy commentator opined, it was lucky you did not kill yourself or embarrass yourself and the family to no end.
What is it you are afraid of?
I don’t exclude myself from this question. I could not figure out what would paralyze me and wash from my brain all those so wonderful plans of action I would come up with while in the throes of being just as miserable at work as a hapless canine who just missed making it into the building door by inches during one of those hard lake effect snow storms I read about.
Seriously, I have made it home and been so tired but also frustrated because I could not keep my eyes open long enough to do anything and anyways, I could not remember all the pieces of the plan of action.
I did figure it out.
Six Basic Fears
The six basic fears are:
The fear of Poverty
The fear of Old Age
The fear of Criticism
The fear of the Loss of Love of Someone
The fear of Ill Health
The fear of Death
Why is it if you are so afraid of being in poverty you don’t just strike out and work until the sun comes up, drive to work, stagger back in the front door and work until the sun comes up again and do it until you are rich?
I have known two fellows who did that and they got it right in a year or less and started living the boo yee tuh ful life of Riley.
So, why not you? I haven’t a clue except to say that in my case I really did hate looking stupid to other people. Poverty was not the fear that was holding me back, it was the fear of criticism. Then something my sweet wife said got into my brain and worked its way down into the basement where those little @#$%ers Stephen King is always jawing about work away from the light of day.
She said, “What do you care what they say or think. They don’t pay our bills. It is just like arguing with a nut on the road. It resolves nothing and puts no money in your pocket.”
I paraphrased, but she was right.
Guard Your Mind; Only Accept Advice From Those Qualified To Give It1
“oh, that’ll never work,” says a friend. At which point you meekly surrender all your dreams and go back to whatever it is that feeds you but makes you miserable.
That sounds more like a drug habit than a job now as I look at what I just wrote. Anyhooo….
Look where you friend who just offered you his grand and oh, so sophisticated opinion on your dream lives!
Most likely he ain’t living your dream, either. Why would you take advice or correction from another loser? I don’t mean that to be harsh; I just mean why would you take advice on what you want to do from someone who is incapable of doing what you want to do?
Find Your Fear
Work you way through what it is you are really afraid of so that you can put it in context. Once you figure out that fulfilling your dreams of building a healthy business online will relieve you of most of what you are afraid of you just might catch on fire and start putting in the work.
What We Are Working on Now
We are showing people how to earn more cash back on top of what they earn now, often taking their cash back rewards into the double digits. Folks are walking away from 7 figure incomes and getting on board with us.
I say ‘New Network Marketing Potential’ because that is what you are, a new potential. Potential what, exactly, remains to be seen.
Selecting a New Network Marketing Opportunity
New or experienced, success is yours only if your pick the company whose products and services are the right ones for you to use and to market.
I say use and market because if you are not willing to use a companies products and services you should not market them. I know this may come as a surprise to many but it just seems to me that there needs to be considerations other than just money.
Being the hardcore capitalist I am, that galls me to say, mostly because of the way the Progressive dogs loose in our society will take it. Should I be more diplomatic in my words? I suppose so, but less and less do I care about my diplomacy and more about telling the frank truth.
Lots of companies come and go, streaking across the marketplace like a comet, only to peter out, leaving a trail of unfulfilled promises. Generally, if a company lasts a solid two or three years with never a commission check payment missed it will make it.
Due Diligence In Choosing A Company
You have several resources to check on a company’s reliability. Many will simply bounce around the Internet reading various blogs devoted to one side or the other of the issue of whether a particular company represents a true opportunity.
I would recommend you also take the time to check with the Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce in the company’s native city. You may find nothing, but it never hurts to check and you may find some interesting details.
The more pressing issue is to see to what degree the company emphasizes customers equally or to a greater extent than it focuses on adding distributors. If acquiring customers appears to be an afterthought, you need to stay away. It is my opinion that sooner or later its distributors will leave. It is also my opinion that it is a near certainty that regulators will sooner or later shut her down if she does not fail on her own.
Companies In This Field Come and Go
It is incredible, but I have read in more than one place that dozens of new networking companies start up every week or two.
I suggest you turn aside from the false promise of getting in at ‘the top.’ You need a company that has weathered the storm of the birthing pains. If the opportunity was good for the original founders, then it will be as good an opportunity for you. If this were not true to your satisfaction
Making a list of good potentials is one place to start. You can go here and see a review of more than 20 top rated companies.
Spend some time in the forums such as warrior.com and betternetworker.com. There is a small fee for some services, but browsing and hanging out in their forums is time well spent. Just remember that a lot of their members are peddling things, too, and sometimes their comments are not entirely without self-interest.
Take you time here; get your feet wet. Don’t accept the answers you get without a grain of salt. Some of the members spend more time complaining about companies with which they have failed than they spend trying to actually improve their craft. Their posts are lots of bluster, overstated pseudo-facts, and a whole lot of ‘I failed with that company because of blah, blah, blah, or more accurately, “wah, wah, wah” the mean old market would not let me succeed.
Ask questions and think about the answers. Take your time and your mind will let the truth rise to the top.
New to Networking? Keep an Eye out for These Problems
Most networking or MLM companies have a business plan that recognizes that more than 99% will fail in this business. I cannot address why they continue to live with this in this limited space, but there it is. If you plan to succeed, you are going to have to go outside for resources.
You’ll need training. Square up with this concept and chew on it until you understand the truth of it. Going to a weekly rah rah meeting where your upline Diamond or whatever your company calls them spends three hours telling you how spiffy it is to be him is not my idea of training. None of that has anything to do with what you need to do.
You are going to need some actions to take, some daily routines in which to engage and some insight as to how to guage your progress.
Let’s sum it up. This will be your to do list before you do anything else.
Decide what kind of lead generation system you are going to use
Decide where you are going to do for your education on marketing
Decide which company’s products and services you are going to use and represent

A fellow who I was fortunate enough to have a conversation with told me that the majority of these companies work within the following constraints:
They know only 0.5% +/- will make it to six figure incomes
98.5% will fall by the wayside and quit the business in short order
16.5% will remain as customers of the company’s products for a fairly long time, many permanently.
His comments would wake me two years later in the cold early morning hours.
People (I was one) would scratch their heads and wonder why the company kept growing if none of the salespeople remained active for very long. Later on, I realized that the company does not need salespeople to remain profitable; it needs customers.
If you are generating 16 long term customers for every 100 failed distributors, your business is golden.
This fellow who covered this information with me, who was honestly trying to help me although at the time I was not at a place in my personal growth to where I could actually grasp what he was telling me, planted the seed in my brain that would just blossom later.
What happened? What was this sudden realization?
The Dream Never Left Me
Someone once asked me, “Why don’t you just quit?” In other words, why do you keep banging your head against this wall when you keep failing? My reply was, “I don’t know how.” I was not lazy, and I was not stupid. I simply had bad information. Every one kept telling me they had the secret and for $29.95 or $39.95 or my next paycheck or whatever, they would REVEAL it to me.

No one reading this is a dummy, you are just in the same predicament any of us just starting out find ourselves. Namely, you don’t know what you don’t know.
The only solution to that problem is to strike out with a test search and see what you come up with, not unlike keyword research. You throw out a keyword into whatever keyword research tool you use and see what floats to the surface in terms of a keyword that has sufficient search numbers to make it worth your time while also being a keyword for which you can compete.

Today I am going to teach you a simple 4 step system that is so simple and straightforward that I almost guarantee that not only can you do it yourself, it will take you minutes to teach it to your folks and that is the very definition of a duplicable skillset. You can use this whether you are engaged in affiliate marketing, online network marketing, or both.
One of the key struggles on the minds of the gurus these days is whether a skillset is transferable to their distributors and affiliates. Four Step System For The Affiliate Marketing Blog and Those Involved In Online Network Marketing
The four steps to this system are:
Invest in courses and training.
Learn and internalize the information in the courses you have purchased.
Teach your new skillsets to those who are in business with you and those who read your blog and watch your videos.
Make a very definite call to action, which is to say, be very clear on what it is you want your viewers and readers to do,i.e., click on a link or go to a certain web address to learn more, etc.
Let’s Break each step down a bit as this is directed at being an affiliate marketing for beginners type of resource. Even so, I bet a lot of experienced folks who struggle with what to write about on a regular basis would be excited by such a simple system.
Why do I say that? Because if they are even a little bit experienced I bet their hard drives are absolutely packed with videos and PDFs they have bought over the years. If you find you are one of these folks, celebrate. You have a resource that will keep you in high cotton as far as things to blog about for some time.
Here we go…
Step 1: Invest In You, Inc
This means you need to invest your time and money into personal growth courses, coaches, books, events, etc. When I built my Internet services provider back in the late ’90’s, I had to sit down and create a business plan. This was just a single stage because after the business plan I had to create a marketing plan, too. This meant I had to go get those skills or hire someone who had them.
Fortunately for us, the skillsets you require are specifically created for the individual who wants to run their business by him or herself. Two primers I recommend are ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki and ‘The 16 Laws of Success’ as told by Carnegie to Napoleon Hill.
Legend has it that Henry Ford objected to Carnegie divulging all these ‘secrets’ to the public and so ‘Think and Grow Rich’ was written as a watered down version that was ‘elite approved’ for the common man. If that makes you smoke just a little bit, you are not alone.
There are skills you need. How to write an effective article, how to do SEO, SAO and how to close and so on. These are all skillsets you need and they are worth purchasing courses on.
Step 2: Learn – Actually Go Through the Courses
The phenomena of folks buying courses and then never bothering to actually go through the things is simply one of those inexplicable things in life. People will pay $39.97, $97, even $297 for a course and never go through the thing. They don’t even bother to get a refund in most cases.
I have thought about this and have rejected the idea that it is just laziness as too simple. I think it is a bad case of desperation and holding on to hope. It is better in some of these folks minds to keep telling themselves they will get to it ‘someday’ because desperate hope to them is better than going through the course and finding they are simply not capable of doing what is required of them.
I don’t know why but the image of a rabbit going ‘tharn’ in Watership Down (I think) just occurred to me. Tharn is when a rabbit freezes up when caught in the headlights and gets run down. Tharn is a good name for a bad state of mind and I think many who fall by the wayside paralyzed by needing to hold on to an uncertain hope rather than risk knowledge of certain failure.
Geez, when that thought occurred to me I really felt badly for those folks. To be so determined that your destiny is failure that you prefer a hope held at arm’s length to actually trying must be horrible. I hate to admit it, but this very thing is what kept me from doing videos for a long time.
When I realized I was being a chicken$#!t and that people needed someone like me and you to step up and actually build an underground railroad to freedom I kind of got mad at myself.
People need to spend their lives rearing their kids and living their lives as free people rather than in some corporate hive. Many folks work in an environment where even the words you speak outside work need to be monitored so as not the be offensive to whomever that corporation is butt buddies with.
What we, you and I, do as affiliate and Internet network marketers is important in ways that go far, far beyond just making a buck.
When you buy a course, start on it that very day. Turn off the TV and get on the course you bought even if it is only for 30 minutes. How should you study?
How To Study Affiliate and Internet Marketing Courses
There is a simple system I use to study whatever it is I need to master in a short timeframe. It helped me acheive a 3.41 GPA in a biochemistry and mathematics course of study in college and it works well for me whatever the subject matter at the time may be. It is called the SQR3 method. Perhaps you have heard of it or used it.
Here is how it works. The steps are:
Survey the course you have bought. Look through the material. Read the section headings, check out the bolded or boxed material, look at whatever may be highlighted.
Question yourself as to what you think the section or chapter is trying to teach you. What is it the writer or instructor is trying to get you to understand?
Then Read the information. Grab your favorite beverage and turn off the phone, tell your sweetheart you are studying. Ask them if they need your help with something before you start and get that chore knocked out so you can focus. Then close the door and read every single word in that chapter. I find that for me, 30 – 45 minute increments seem to be best.
I also know from research on the matter that taking a teaspoon of honey at the end of the 30 minutes can increase retention for those for whom sugar is not a problem.
Recite the material out loud. Yes, indeed, read the material out loud. This involves more of the five senses increasing the number of channels through which the information flows. Your eyes are processing it. Your mouth is repeating it. Your ears are reprocessing the information again. This can do nothing but increase your long term retention of what you are studying.
This also means it becomes less something you have studied and more something that is second nature to you.
Review what it is you have learned. Think about it. Roll it around in your brain. Discuss it with whomever taught it to you or those with whom you are running to win.
Teach what you learn.
Take what you have learned and repackage it in your own words and provide it to your team. They signed on with you as either an affiliate or a distributor so it is a given they are looking to you for instruction. Going to the trouble of providing them with ongoing information that you have invested in means they are going to trust you.
Sometimes this will mean you teach them directly. Other times it will mean you refer them to a resource such as a blog post or video you have created or something they can buy, providing them with an in depth solution to their problem. People buy from people they trust and who they feel really have an interest in their success.
Here are a few reasons why videos work:
You build a rapport over a long distance in a repeatable manner.
Google loves videos and has an interest in providing link juice to folks who use YouTube as their video hosting choice. Always keep backups of your videos on your hard drive and on archival quality DVDs, too.
Stats prove people like videos more than reading and blog posts with relevant videos get read more.

Share the four steps we discussed earlier, ILT it. Which is to say use the course material you have invested in and learned and teach it to your audience.
Call To Action, CTA
Then provide a call to action because they will not know what to do next unless you tell them. Ask them the following question: If you feel you got benefit from this, please comment and share.

Remember, your goal is to become a Master Marketer. This means all of the steps mentioned here are things that will help you become just such a Master Marketer. I know because of the results I have seen when this information is implemented in a hold nothing back manner.
Now, the above is designed to help both the affiliate marketer as well as the Internet network marketer to take advantage of all that is available to them as well as that which they have previously invested and to do so with an easy path for video creation.
Last night I got to attend an Empower Network affiliates only hangout where David Wood and some others explained the future changes for the company. They talked about their corporate goals of producing 100 new millionaires a year and not only that, but to do it from the pool of normal folks like you and me.
Having a bad case of the chapped derriere because of the way many companies seem to accept their failure rates, this was just another case of Empower Network proving to me their motivations to help people succeed is at least equal to, if not greater, than their profit motive. This is a business plan I can believe in. This is a business plan I can recommend with an entirely clean and clear conscience knowing it is good for my friends, maximizing their chances for success.

For some few folks this is okay, being centers of influence arranging a meeting and speaking with credibility makes signing up folks just a tad easier and more enjoyable. The question is, are you this person?
Your recruiter told you what to do and you are hard after it.
What he may or may not have told you is the odds of success for any given person is less than 1%.

The reason these companies present and market the way they do is basic human nature. The
majority of folks are going to work a while and fall by the wayside. 16% of those who sign up to become a distributor will remain on as customers with the company once they give up on the business side. This is a plan the company can work with.
The reason 16% stay with the company is because most companies give excellent value in the products they sell. Word of mouth is the best advertising and with the persons advertising paying for the right to advertise the products they use, it is a win win win scenario for the company.
…but you are not in the business of making a customer base for the company, are you? No, you are in the business of creating a customer base for yourself, to build a profitable business with which to support yourself, your family, and your hopes and dreams.
The Four Pillars of a Successful Networking Business
There are four pillars to any successful networker’s business. They are:
Auto ship/subscription continuity income.
Product revenue, things you can sell at one time costs. .
High ticket revenue…at least $1,000 commission for the product.
Business opportunity. Whatever business in which you are now involved goes here.
Auto ship subscriptions range from monthly orders of consumables to ongoing educational resources. Folks buying from you here are customers. They may or may not be distributors.
Many folks will drop a one time fee of $39.95, $297, $395 or whatever on training courses or tools that teach them specific skills. This is a major source of income for those folks talking about reaching high five figure incomes. They spend a great deal of time developing them. The good thing is, once they are developed they can be sold at 100% profit over and over. This is where you will get your product revenue.
You are probably asking yourself how in the world will you find the time and resources to make it to this point while you are kickstarting your business opportunity.

Leads are the name of the game for building any kind of business offline and online; having a good lead generation process is crucial to the eventual success of your business. Even your local supermarket spends effort, time and money generating leads. Those sale papers are not afterthought.
Not all leads are equal and not all lead generation processes are equal, or even effective. A sub-standard lead can cost a lot more than it seems at first impression. Time is a limited, one way investment that you will spend no matter what.

You need a method of generating leads who are looking for what you are offering, for whom you have a solution to their problem, an end to their pain.
Step Back and Understand the Lead Process
If what you are doing is not working, come to grips with the idea that you don’t understand the process. Understand that this is a critical issue that must be resolved in order to move forward.
Online generation is deceptively simple looking. Mainly, because you are struggling to be seen and heard in a web of pages dominated by Google and folks who understand SEO, SAO and how to get backlinks.
Yes, you can do that, but doesn’t it make more sense to be presenting information and help in such a way that they seek you out for free? When you create content and put it up on a blog it works for you from then on. If you are buying clicks, once those clicks are done, you are done and they are gone. Hopefully, they will buy but if they do not, then you have accomplished nothing.
Obviously, this is the downside. I am not entirely against buying clicks I just know many people who are trying to get started do not have the budget to buy traffic. Once you do get started, buying focused, targeted traffic is a great way to accelerate your business. Doing it when you have to choose one bill to pay over another to get started is maybe not such a good idea. The cool thing is there are ways to get a blog hosted pretty much for free or less than a $10 spot a month and get going now.
A Lead Generation Process That Works
You need a lead generation process that provides you a what to do, when to do it, what to sell, and to whom to sell it kind of set up. Do you have any up front training that is free for your prospective customer or distributor to go so they can get a feel for you and what you offer? Do you have a mechanism whereby you can make money on 90% of the folks who say ‘no’ to your network marketing business?A system that is always updated so as to keep up with changing times and effective strategies?
The attraction marketing system turns marketing on its head. Its record of producing 6 and 7 figure income earners is unequaled.
Before if you wanted to sell you had to go out and find people to sell to, cold calling, door knocking, dialing. Worse, you hung out in bookstores hoping to run into someone to whom to talk.
Generally, this means no sales, no new distributors to make sales, no paycheck.

That you really care whether they succeed…and you do, you surely do.
People buy from folks they like; be likeable.
Offer to cure their pain, make them understand their past failures are not their fault. No one gave them more instructions than a green high school coach saying, “Get out there and go for it! You can do it!”
You are a winner even if you have not got your game plan just right. Deciding to cowboy up and step into the arena is what makes you a winner. You want to be successful, respected and a leader…and you are going to be so.
It just requires a mindset change.
