5 Reasons You Should Stop Shortening URLs

(AP Photo/Francisco Seco)

“A recent paper by Cornell Tech researcher Vitaly Shmatikov and independent researcher Martin Georgiev demonstrated that shortening URLs  can have serious privacy consequences. Because shortened URLs are so short, they are vulnerable to brute-force scanning, meaning that attackers can guess multiple shortened URLs and read all of the working ones. The researchers looked at Microsoft MSFT -0.95% OneDrive and Google GOOGL -0.51% maps URLs shortened using bit.ly. They found that shortened URLs shared on a cloud service are effectively public. In the case of Microsoft OneDrive, they’re vulnerable to malware injection as well.

“In the case of cloud-storage services such as Microsoft OneDrive, this not only leads to leakage of sensitive documents, but also enables anyone to inject arbitrary malicious content into unlocked accounts, which is then automatically copied into all of the account owner’s devices. In the case of mapping services, short URLs reveal addresses and—via easy cross-correlation with public directories—identities of users who shared directions to medical facilities (including abortion, mental-health, and addiction-treatment clinics), prisons and juvenile detention centers, places of worship, and other sensitive locations; enable inference of social ties between people; and leak other sensitive private information,” the researchers concluded.

Although Google has responded by lengthening URLs and blocking automated scanning and Microsoft no longer allows OneDrive users to share files using shortened URLs, previously shared links are still live, and the exposed data is still vulnerable. But the fact that private shortened URLs could become public is not only reason not to shorten URLs. There are others.”

I had no idea that shortened URLs could be so problematic and dangerous. There is also the idea that some folks could get angry at a misleading title to a link.

This article goes on to explain that twitter now automatically shortens your URLs so no need to do that for Twitter anymore.

“Shortening URLs used to help you save precious characters on Twitter, but this is no longer the case. ALL URLs are now altered to 23 characters.

TL;DR: Using the full URL promotes honesty, transparency, and good digital hygiene. Posting shortened URLs does the opposite.”

Twitter Training!

Twitter

Twitter is dear to my heart, folks.

Why?

Because unlike on Facebook where everyone is a Constitutional Scholar, an economics professor and a rocket scientist holding forth regularly, on Twitter you have to be disciplined.

You have exactly 140 characters to make your case and point them to a link to which you hope they will go.

140 characters.

Twitter Manners

Folks seem to be nice on twitter. Perhaps that is because you can use your 140 in a flash rage or you can civilize your response and probably wind with a better result.

We are told on our blogs that it does not pay to bounce around. You need to stay on point. From what I have seen, that is good advice to use in your tweets, too. I suppose it is okay to occasionally tweet about something off topic, but as I think about it a separate personal Twitter account separate from your business account is a good way to go.

Twitter Marketing Training

Finding a Twitter for business training course that works is maybe not so easy.  A conversation with a well known multiple six figure earner indicated that many times all efforts will go unanswered and unrewarded.

If, like me, you like Twitter and would like to gain some more insight and knowledge on how to use this concise social media platform for marketing or for your business in general, then you need to go here and sign up for tomorrow’s webinar.   I did.

Being in business for yourself gives you more opportunities to enjoy life.
Being in business for yourself gives you more opportunities to enjoy life.

Like a lot of you, I did the dance of trying company after company in the home business arena with little success. Amway, Quixtar, Melaleuca, some company selling silver solution and so on.

What did they all have in common?

They had the following in common:

  1. Excellent, top quality products.
  2. Sell your family and friends and their family and friends and hope you survive long enough to make it to the 0.5% of those who actually make a living from home seemed to be the industry sales plan.
  3. A 0.5% success rate amongst their distributors and no plan for making it better.
  4. They provided lots of RAH! RAH! sessions and very little ‘Do This, Not That’ instruction.
  5. Note: I do not consider ‘worry the p!$$ out of your family and friends’ to be worthy of being called instruction.

A fellow who I was fortunate enough to have a conversation with told me that the majority of these companies work within the following constraints:

  • They know only 0.5% +/- will make it to six figure incomes
  • 98.5% will fall by the wayside and quit the business in short order
  • 16.5% will remain as customers of the company’s products for a fairly long time, many permanently.

His comments would wake me two years later in the cold early morning hours.

People (I was one) would scratch their heads and wonder why the company kept growing if none of the salespeople remained active for very long. Later on, I realized that the company does not need salespeople to remain profitable; it needs customers.

If you are generating 16 long term customers for every 100 failed distributors, your business is golden.

This fellow who covered this information with me, who was honestly trying to help me although at the time I was not at a place in my personal growth to where I could actually grasp what he was telling me, planted the seed in my brain that would just blossom later.

What happened? What was this sudden realization?

The Dream Never Left Me

Someone once asked me, “Why don’t you just quit?” In other words, why do you keep banging your head against this wall when you keep failing? My reply was, “I don’t know how.” I was not lazy, and I was not stupid. I simply had bad information. Every one kept telling me they had the secret and for $29.95 or $39.95 or my next paycheck or whatever, they would REVEAL it to me.

It was not too long that I figured out was that what they knew was how to separate me and most others in that late night TV daze of exhaustion and worry from our $39.95 and very little about building a stable, long term profitable business from home. Sure, we felt better for a time …we had done something…  but very little actual information was ever forthcoming.

Early Morning Wake Up Call From the Great BEYOND …My Subconscious

I sat up in the middle of the night…I think it was something like 3:15AM on a Saturday morning and said to myself,

  1. “Their plan calls for a 98.5% failure rate.”
  2. “Their plan calls for a 98.5% failure rate.”
  3. Their plan calls for a 98.5% failure rate.”

Epiphany Time

I Need A New Plan

I needed a new plan.

I could not rely on someone whose plan calls for me to most likely fail to give me reliable information.

…because:

  1. They were already betting on my failure. It was already worked into the numbers.
  2. Their plan did not need for me to succeed
  3. My replacement was already being groomed most likely

Like I said, I could rely on them for quality products because unlike some big box stores who only sell what is cheap to people on minimal incomes, most direct sales companies thrive on selling quality products to folks who demand quality and will pay for it.

Keeping my mouth shut to my family and friends…I was determined that the only future conversations I would have with family and friends about business would be about my paying cash for my house, I went into think mode.

I needed a new plan based on information that had stood the test of time and changing market conditions. I went to work to find that information.

Burnt out on the grind of prospecting, I went through the trouble of actually spending time with those who were succeeding. I made it a point to find their contact information and talk with them.

They all had the same thing to say:

“Quit selling.”

Run Your Business Like a Business and Market It

So I stopped selling and prospecting and started marketing.

And that was the difference that has made all the difference. I actually experienced cash flow that involved no phone conversations or persuasion by me. I also found out that the majority of successful folks share a common marketing (not sales) system.

Now it is YOUR TURN to “get inside” the same system I joined about a year ago… absolutely FREE for the next 30 days.

Audience Builder Pro, A Review

Audience Builder Pro Helps You Sell More Stuff

If you want to make more money, all you have to do is sell more stuff. To sell more stuff, get your offer in front of more people. Build a bigger audience and you will make more money. The more you tell, the more you sell. It’s a universal principle; it really does work.

One of the fastest, most powerful ways to build a bigger audience and to get more traffic, leads and sales on complete autopilot is to syndicate your original content to numerous social media sites.

Some social media sites include:

  • YouTube
  •  Facebook
  •  Twitter\
  •  LinkedIn

…and this is by no means an exhaustive list. For some reason I like plurk although I don’t kid myself in comparing it to one of the above. The interface is just crisp, but I am beginning to get off track here. If you check out Plurk, make sure to add me.

Anyways, when you upload a new Youtube promotional video… not only do you have the potential for everyone on Youtube to find it… you have the potential for 800,000,000 people on Facebook to see it and another 250 million on Twitter and 200 million people on LinkedIn… and more, quite a lot more.

If you like doing what if’s in your mind, think on this: If your conversion rate is 1% and you managed to get in front of a significant percentage of Facebook’s members with your content, what do you think that 1% would look like in your checkbook? Pretty nice, I am guessing.

How Does Audience Builder Pro Work?

Audience Builder Pro leverages and promotes all of these social media updates creating 20-25 high authority blog and Web 2.0 links and by creating 20-25 new social media links on a daily basis. ABP is applying standard SEO practices to help cause your social media content to rank higher on the search engines and rank higher within the social media site as well. We then ping all of these new links to make it easy for the search engines to find them and give you a long-term SEO boost.

Now, you can submit one or two feeds every month. We will show you how to set up the feeds if you don’t know how and you can expect the following:

Submit one RSS Feed URL and you get:
• 20-25 authority blog and web 2.0 links daily
• 20-25 authority social media links daily

Submit two RSS Feed URLs and you get:
• 40-50 authority blog and web 2.0 links daily
• 40-50 authority social media links daily

This will in short order get your offer in front of more people.Once this is done, you can put a check mark by the issue of traffic and concentrate on creating quality content and improving your conversion.

I believe in Audience Builder Pro. You should go here and watch this short video and check it out for yourself.

Marketing Affiliate Products

Marketing Affiliate Products As A Business

Tim and MJMarketing affiliate products is the simplest, most direct, most low cost entry path into becoming a business owner and taking advantage of the Internet as a global market. To be an affiliate marketer all you have to do as a place to start is to determine what kind of products you want to market and for what companies you wish to market.

The process can be as easy as simply clicking on the ‘affiliates’ link at the bottom of the page, supplying the required information and putting up a one page website explaining the product and why you think it is such a perfect solution to whatever problem or need it is trying to fill.

IF someone finds your page in all the billions of pages out there currently indexed by Google and they find your case for buying the product persuasive and click on your link and buy, congratulations. You are profitable.

…and very lucky.

Marketing Affiliate Products

In the section before, we talked about your need to determine what kind of products you want to market. Here are a few considerations.

Services, Physical Products, or Digital Downloads

Services require you have a skillset or access to willing folks who possess that skillset. Physical products are really not so bad. 90% of them are available, most likely, on either Amazon or eBay and in many cases they will dropship with no shipping fees.

Digital downloads are the simplest product to deliver. You make the sale, they make the purchase. You get paid; they download the product. Sale complete.

Commission Rates Matter

Now, it may sound like I am stating the obvious, but you need to remember that you are in business to make a profit. You need to run your business keeping in mind that reaching profitability as quickly as possible is job #1. For this reason, I strongly recommend you not bother with products that pay you less than 40% to 50% and higher.

If it is a subscription product that pays you monthly, so much the better. A subscription base which you are adding to each month is the holy grail, in my opinion. Naturally, you can have a stable of products such as items off of clickbank and other sites that pay a one time commission, but recurring commissions in my opinion are the main goal for an affiliate marketer.

Higher commission rates mean a shorter path to profitability. Monthly commission rates mean a sustainable business that can stand bad months.

Market Affiliate Programs

That heading has a double meaning, actually. You can act as an affiliate in marketing programs for ‘stuff,’ whether it be as I say services, physical products or digital downloads that provide information and training. You can also act as an affiliate for affiliate programs, generally in order to sell subscriptions to ongoing marketing and training programs that provide a small business owner with proven sales and marketing plans, whether he own a vitamin store or a doughnut shop.

There are a few really good online marketing affiliate programs out there and quite a few copycats. Because the good programs are so profitable it seems everyone thinks they can run one. This particular business model is less than 5 years old, so make sure you pick a good one that has a reputation amongst its afiliates for treating them right. If you want a recommendation on that you will need to ask me directly.

If you want to join the ranks of profitable online marketing affiliates, I suggest you look at My Lead System Pro’s Mastery program. It directly addresses the question of how do you make your pages and offers seen.

My Lead System Pro will provide you professional training by folks who have proven track records in their various fields such as:

  • Facebook Marketing
  •  Twitter Marketing
  •  LinkedIn Marketing
  •  Meet-Up Groups
  •  Google+
  • Instagram Marketing
  • Paid and Free Marketing Strategies

…the list goes on and on.

If you have a channel you are wanting to exploit, chances are we have the training available to make you profitable.

Best Social Marketing Practices On Twitter

Being in business for yourself gives you more opportunities to enjoy life.
Being in business for yourself gives you more opportunities to enjoy life.

How many times have you purchased an online webinar that promised to deliver actionable information that spent an hour or two building up to…

…you have to buy ‘this other thing’ to really get ‘the secret.”

Does that tick you off? Makes you wonder whether the fellow is in the business of helping you make money or if his entire plan is to step by step coax you into sending him your money. You wake up after a few of these and realize you have spent so much time trying to pry out what this obviously super clever fellow knows…after all, he is making a beaucoup bucks a month, right? …you begin to realize you have spent so much time and money hanging on his next words that you have failed to engage in marketing to your folks, that you have failed to both engage in closing sales and in providing significant help to the people who are looking to you for leadership.

This article will provide actionable items and real links to resources you can use now, for free.

Today We Will Cover a Few Best Social Marketing Practices On Twitter. Obviously, this is not an exhaustive list but these are proven things you can do, right now, without spending a dime.

Best Social Marketing Practices On Twitter

Images on Twitter Posts

Share images on Twitter with your comments.

Just as videos on blog posts increase readership and YouTube videos linked into blog posts provide a powerful backlink to your posts, images on Twitter post increase both readership and sharing. Readership and sharing also lead to more clicks as favorites. This increases your social authority from Twitter.

Tweet Your Blog Posts To Your Followers

Tweet links to your blog content. This means tweet to every blog post and tweet to particularly helpful posts more than once. Your followers might not click on your content the first time but next week, when the problem you are trying to solve in a particular post is at the front of their mind, they will click on your tweeted link.

You can set your blog to automatically tweet your posts. If you don’t know how to do this, email me. It is a simple set up and it is free.

Share Links To Your Website: Your Goal Is To Build Your List

Best Social Marketing Practices Include Tweeting Links To Your Website, Regularly

We know that most folks won’t buy from you on a first reading. Even in email campaigns where you have the exact solution for their problem, the pain reliever for their pain, it takes an average of 7 emails or more for the person to bite.  Why can include any number of reasons from it being a full moon to simply not having the money at the moment.

Take the focus off making a sale right now and focus on building a relationship with that person – right now. Ask yourself how you can engage this person in an ongoing conversation about how you can help them build their business.

Encouraging them to visit your blog often is one way and you do that by providing actionable, useful content. This means information on things they can do today by subscribing to your blog without having to hit the credit card. Subscribing means they are giving you permission to keep in touch.

Here is a free video on how MLSP can help you by educating you not only on a full spectrum of how to use Twitter, but how to engage in best social marketing practices across the growing list of social media sites in an integrated manner.

I know a lot of you are seriously hurting so I want you to click here now and watch this entertaining and informative video right now.
